Legal basis

Royal Decree of 5 December 1986 on access to information and use of the identification number of the National Register of natural persons by the Algemene Spaar- en Lijfrentekas (Savings Banks and Retirement Funds) insofar as the latter is charged with keeping the employees’ individual accounts.

Object

The object of the application is to uniquely (SSIN or BIS) identify a person for whom Sigedis has received a request for identification from an employer, a social secretariat or a mandatary.

It is not the responsibility of Sigedis to verify the purpose and proportionality of the request. Furthermore, Sigedis cannot be held liable for the applicant’s use of the identification (SSIN or BIS) result.

What personal data do we process?

  1. The data from the identification document.
    • the data mentioned on the electronic identification document that has been sent through the application;
    • the identification number of the document;
    • the identification number of the person.
  2. The data of the person for whom identification is requested.
    • the name;
    • the first name(s);
    • the date of birth;
    • the place of birth;
    • the country of birth;
    • the nationality
    • the gender;
    • the address.
  3. The data of the employer.
    • the name of the application user;
    • the language of the application user.

What are the rights of the employer/the social secretariat/the mandatary (= the declarant)?

The declarant is entitled:

  • to send a request for identification;
  • to consult the history of identification requests;
  • to send electronic identification documents;
  • to cancel its identification request.

The use of sample identification documents at the Help Centre

In order to provide maximum support to the user of the online service, e.g. images of real and/or ‘specimen’ identification documents are used.

  • The images are subject to copyright protection regulations.
  • When using authentic documents, in view of privacy and personal data protection, no data that may identify a person shall be made visible.
  • Our aim is to keep this information accurate and up-to-date. However Sigedis shall not accept any responsibility or liability with respect to the image material and corresponding descriptions at the Help Centre. The information is not necessarily complete, accurate or up-to-date. Furthermore, it cannot be guaranteed that an image that is available online, is an exact representation of an officially approved text; only the corresponding legislation and regulations of the country concerned shall be considered authentic. Malfunctions resulting from technical errors cannot be excluded; some images may be created or structured in files or formats that are not error-free.
